Description of Project:
The owners of this multi story view property in San Rafael were looking to increase the usability and quality of space after remodeling the interior of their home. The existing landscape, while usable, was cut up because of the sloping nature of the site, which didn't utilize the potential of the yard space. The existing landscape was also showing its age at over 30 old.

The design solution was to remove the existing elements, a brick wall and concrete patio, and excavate back into the hillside to create more space. A new bluestone patio and retaining wall were installed to create an entertaining space, the existing deck was expanded to improve circulation and usable space exiting a sliding door from the main level. A small lawn was included for a play area, and a new outdoor kitchen was installed for outdoor cooking and entertaining.

The perimeter of the project was also fenced to keep deer from entering the yard and disturbing the new plantings. A light weight design was desired, so that the fence would not interrupt views or stand out in the neighborhood. The solution was cable fencing installed with redwood posts, which gave a contemporary clean look to the fencing.
